NYS American Association of University Professors (NYS AAUP)

Website:  http://nyscaaup.org/

The New York State Conference of the AAUP (NYSC AAUP) promotes the activities and values of the AAUP on the state and campus level. Their primary focus is academic freedom and integrity in higher education and the value of and need for shared governance.

Among other services the NYSC has a Chapter Service Program to assist local chapters in the areas of recruitment, tenure, academic freedom, governance, leadership training, lobbying, legal referrals, and the economic welfare of the profession; publishes a newsletter, New York Academe; offers informational and educational webinars; and has two Conference meetings a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. There are also a number of Committees and Councils with specific focuses and tasks which serve to benefit members and chapters.

The national AAUP website (https://www.aaup.org)
offers additional information and services for faculty in higher education.

Tenured, non-tenured (part-time, contingent, etc.) faculty are strongly encouraged to join, as are graduate students, as many of the concerns we face are shared.

After having served as the Vice President and President of the NYSC of the AAUP, I currently serve as the Executive Director. Please reach out to me regarding any issues, concerns, or ideas you might have regarding any of the areas listed above.
